SUMMER ASSIGNMENT FOR 2023-24 MATHEMATICS STUDENTS
ALL students are required to complete a summer math assignment. The summer math assignments are available on this website. To access the summer assignments, scroll down to the appropriate course that you are enrolled in for the fall. For example, if you are taking Algebra 1 for the 2023-24 school year, you will complete the Algebra 1 summer homework. Please click on that link and download your summer math assignment. Please print your own copy of the assignment. If you do not have a printer, consider visiting your public library to print.
The completion of the summer assignment is required. The assignment will be collected the first day of school. The problem sets in the summer assignment were specifically selected to reinforce the foundational skills and understandings you will need for successful completion of your next math course. Your math teacher will be building upon these skills in August. Completion of the practice exercises in this assignment will therefore help ensure that you will be ready. If you are unsure how to proceed with a given topic, feel free to use your textbook, ask an older sibling or parent for assistance, or seek help from a friend who is confident with the material.
You may need to do some of the problems on a separate sheet of paper, or graph paper, in order to effectively show your work. We encourage you to write each problem on a separate piece of paper, show your work in pencil, and circle your answer. Your teacher will begin in August with a brief review of the content and skills covered by this assignment. This review will be followed by either a major test or a series of smaller quizzes to sample your mastery of this material. These assessments will be counted as part of your first marking period grade. Completion of the assignment will help prepare you for these assessments. This is an excellent opportunity to begin your year with a high test or quiz score. You have seen all of this material before and have the entire summer to complete the assignment. You are encouraged to complete the assignment during August so that it is still fresh in your mind for the first day of school.
If you have questions, feel free to email Ms. Schuler ([email protected]).
Best wishes for a fun, restful, and productive summer.
Sincerely,
The Mathematics Department
NOTE: Any version of the TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator is required for all math classes at Powers Catholic High School.
